After the tremendous success and longevity of Tragic Kingdom, it took No Doubt a few years to record their followup. Finally, on April 11, 2000, Return Of Saturn was released. The album had three singles: "Ex-Girlfriend," "Simple Kind Of Life," and "Bathwater" weren't the big hits that their Tragic Kingdom predecessors had been, but Return Of Saturn did reach #2 on the Billboard albums chart and was nominated for a Grammy. The album was less peppy and ska punk, instead leaning more towards introspective ballads and serious musings; it showed considerable maturation and growth, and received positive reviews from critics. Though many site their major label debut as their favorite, Return Of Saturn is No Doubt's best and most relatable album to date.
Highlights on Return Of Saturn include "Ex-Girlfriend," "Simple Kind Of Life," "Bathwater," "Artificial Sweetener," "New," "Comforting Lie," and "Suspension Without Suspense," "Big Distraction."
