No Doubt – Rock Steady

no doubt 2001 rock steady

No Doubt's fifth studio album took much less time for the band to record. Only a year and a half after Return Of Saturn came out, Rock Steady was released on December 11, 2001. Though it only reached #9 on the Billboard 200, Rock Steady ultimately did much better than its predecessor, selling 3 million copies and launching two Grammy winning singles. "Hey Baby," "Hella Good," "Underneath It All," and "Running" did well on radio, and signaled the new sound No Doubt was going for. Rock Steady is less alternative rock and more dancehall, electropop, and dub. It's an overall very fun, upbeat album that focuses more on partying and love than regret and breakups. Rock Steady is a bit more like No Doubt's earlier albums in terms of its peppy attitude, but it also dives into new musical territory effortlessly. Unfortunately, the band didn't continue this musical expansion until 2012; instead they took a decade-long hiatus and Gwen Stefani released two solo albums before the band reunited for Push And Shove

Highlights on Rock Steady include "Hella Good," "Making Out," "Detective," "Running," and "Platinum Blonde Life."
