American Idol Winner – Season 1 (2002)
Kelly Clarkson was on the first season of American Idol in 2002. She proved herself again and again with each episode, and finally in September it was down to the final two. Kelly was up against Justin Guarini for the first American Idol crown, but Kelly ultimately won.
With her TV show win, Kelly also gained a 6-album contract with RCA. She put a double single in celebration of her American Idol win – it included the songs “A Moment Like This” and “Before Your Love.” Both songs appeared on her debut studio album, Thankful, in 2003.
Kelly remains the biggest star from the American Idol franchise.
From Justin To Kelly – Musical Film (2003)
Part of winning American Idol meant that Kelly had to appear in this film. She and runner-up Justin Guarini were contractually obliged to star in the film, and despite Kelly’s best efforts, she did what she had to do. From Justin To Kelly got mostly negative reviews, and Kelly has admitted she hates it and will never tell her daughter about it. Nonetheless, a few songs from the film – including “Anytime” and “Timeless” – appeared on Kelly’s and Justin’s debut albums.
Duets – TV Show (2012)
Kelly returned to the small screen ten years after she won American Idol, but this time she was in the judge’s seat. Kelly joined John Legend, Robin Thicke, and Jennifer Nettles as celebrity judges on the one-season ABC show. Each of them had two unknown singers that wanted to make it big in the music industry. As the name suggests, the show was all about singing duets – amongst the contests, amongst the judges, or all mixed up.
