Ghost Shares Music Video For “He Is,” Ending ‘Meliora’ Era

Two full years ago, Ghost released their acclaimed third album, Meliora. It was led by the singles “Cirice” and “From The Pinnacle To The Pit,” and found the band earning more recognition than ever before. Last year, Ghost launched their Pope Star EP, which included the new song “Square Hammer” along with four covers. Fans may have assumed the Meliora era was over then, but now the band is back with one last music video for the song “He Is.”

“He Is” starts as the most gentle Ghost song yet, led by acoustic guitar and a folky atmosphere. But don’t be fooled; the song is an ode to Satan. The long-awaited new music video taps into that serene mood. It starts with Papa Emeritus in all white, holding a rose in a romantic balladeer’s set. The soft focus and fade editing emphasize the late ’70s styling. Papa Emeritus then leads a church filled with people in white, baptizing them and ridding them of sin in cult-like fashion. As with most of Ghost’s videos, “He Is” takes clear inspiration from the past, feeling like an old horror film just as the music evokes.

“He Is” is the final single from Ghost’s 2015 album, Meliora. You can buy the song on iTunes or stream it on Spotify now. Ghost is currently working on album #4, and it is expected out sometime in 2018. The band experienced some drama in the last year, particularly the departure of the Nameless Ghouls. But we can only hope the next album will be as strong as their first three. Keep checking back here for all the latest Ghost music news.
