After months of recording and teasing, today Tove Lo graced fans with “Glad He’s Gone,” the lead single for her upcoming fourth album. Tove wrote “Glad He’s Gone” with Shellback, Jakob Jerlström, and Ludvig Söderberg on January 24, 2019. In an announcement post for the song, Tove Lo shared:
Alright here we go guys! My first sunshine song, yet still a breakup song lol. I hope it resonates with you, we’ve all been on both sides of the breakup pep talk with our friends and we all know how good it feels to get your partner in crime back when they finally leave that fuckboy (or girl!) behind (CAUSE YOUR BFF CAN DO NO WRONG). Love you and thank you for all the pep and love you’ve given me during this process, I’ve felt your excitement from my head to my toes and I’m ready for this ride. I hope you are 😉 GLAD HE’S GONE is out everywhere at midnight. ❤️ #gladhesgone #sunshinekitty
In contrast to Tove’s previous singles, “Glad He’s Gone” is a softer, breezy summer song. Throughout the lyrics, Tove comforts her broken-hearted friend who just got out of a relationship. But instead of feeling sad, Tove encourages her friend to be happy, saying that the ex-boyfriend was a tool and not good enough for her. Indeed, she’s better off without him. The song has a chill, acoustic vibe, offset by the squeaky titular refrain bookending the chorus. It’s a relatable, charming song that promises a great new album.
“Glad He’s Gone” also comes with a new lyric video. It features footage of Tove in her backyard and at a house party, as well as a cartoon character known as Sunshine Kitty.

“Glad He’s Gone” is the lead single for Tove Lo’s upcoming 4th album. Though nothing has been officially announced yet, the album is rumored to be titled Sunshine Kitty, and is expected later this year.
Tove Lo’s last album was Blue Lips, released in November 2017. That record was the counterpart to her 2016 sophomore album, Lady Wood. Those two albums launched singles like “Cool Girl,” “True Disaster,” “Disco Tits,” and “Bitches.” Tove Lo’s most recent single just came out earlier this month. She recorded “Diva” with Aazar and Swae Lee.
“Glad He’s Gone” is a great way to kick off Tove Lo’s upcoming album era. While we don’t know much about her forthcoming record yet, we expect to learn a lot over the next couple of months. We anticipate her new album – possibly titled Sunshine Kitty – will be out by this fall.
