Avril Lavigne Releases New Song “Dumb Blonde” Featuring Nicki Minaj
Just last week, Avril Lavigne revealed that her new song, “Dumb Blonde,” would feature rapper Nicki Minaj. She previewed the song’s energetic chorus, along with snippets of the other 11 songs on her forthcoming album, Head Above Water. After announcing the single yesterday, today fans can finally hear “Dumb Blonde” in full.
“Dumb Blonde” dives right into the chorus before cooling to its surprising first verse. Avril shows off her high register in the pre-chorus, declaring, “I’m a babe, I’m a boss, and I’m making this money.” The post-chorus lends the song a cheerleader, rallying vibe, then Nicki Minaj takes over on the bridge. The song tackles misogyny and discrimination based on hair color in an empowering anthem that’s fun but clever. It’s an unexpected song, but it works really well.
