Ellie Goulding’s “Sixteen” Music Video Captures Halcyon Days Of Youth

Less than a week after sharing her new single “Sixteen” and its yearbook-style lyric video, Ellie Goulding is back with a brand new music video. “Sixteen” is the third single from her forthcoming album, a nostalgic nod to our teenage years when everything’s changing and we’re running out of time. The song follows singles “Close To Me” and “Flux.”

Throughout “Sixteen,” Ellie reflects on the events she went through as a teenager. The song’s music video captures this turning point beautifully, showing two teen girls following their own wild path. It starts with one girl’s turbulent argument with her mother, but she escapes it all when she and her friend play hooky for the day. They embody the carefree wonder of kids younger than them – playing on swings and arcade games – but are also growing up and experimenting with new things as they edge closer to adulthood. They try alcohol and marijuana and kiss boys, but for the two of them, it’s all light fun. Meanwhile, present-day Ellie and her childhood friend hang out in a parked care, reminiscing on those simpler times.

Along with the new video, Ellie also shared some of the inspiration behind “Sixteen” and her own memories of being a teenager:

You can stream or download “Sixteen” from all the major music platforms here. “Sixteen” is the latest single from Ellie’s upcoming fourth album. The new record should also include “Close To Me,” featuring Swae Lee and Diplo, and Ellie’s recent ballad, “Flux.”

In addition to previewing her forthcoming album, Ellie has also been busy with numerous soundtracks. Last month she shared “Do You Remember,” which appears in the film Fighting With My Family. Two weeks ago, Ellie also dropped “In This Together” from the new Netflix nature documentary series, Our Planet. And that’s not all! Later this month, Ellie will have a song on the new Game Of Thrones soundtrack album, For The Throne. That’s a lot of new Ellie Goulding music!

Ellie’s long-awaited new album will serve as the follow-up to her 2015 record, Delirium. While we don’t have a title, tracklist, or release date for the forthcoming record, we expect to find out more in the coming weeks. In an interview last October, Ellie did reveal how the new music will sound. She said that most of the songs she’s written are quite sad, written about things that have built up over the years. Luckily they’re “not reflective” of how Ellie currently feels. In contrast to previous records, Ellie’s new songs talk about “quite specific things that have happened in my life, and something specific that happened to a friend of mine.”

Enjoy Ellie’s new single, “Sixteen,” and its nostalgic music video. Keep jamming to the new song, and look out for details about Ellie’s album in the next few months. Keep checking back here for all the latest Ellie Goulding music news.
