The Weeknd Delivers Theatrical “Save Your Tears” Music Video

It may be a new year, but that doesn’t mean we have to move on from The Weeknd’s latest album! Following several singles and six music videos, The Weeknd’s newest offering is a music video for “Save Your Tears,” one of the highlights on After Hours.

“Save Your Tears” has a driving groove and ’80s synths, a soothing backdrop as The Weeknd describes an encounter with his ex. She’s upset with him and ignores him, but he’s belatedly realized he still wants to be with her. He wishes they could get back together and end the sadness of their breakup. Yet he also concedes that she deserves someone better, similar to the message of “Scared To Live.” Strings accentuate the song and eventually bring it to a close. Though not quite as flashy as other singles, “Save Your Tears” is a standout on The Weeknd’s 2020 album.

Breaking away from the headless theme of other After Hours videos, here, The Weeknd’s head is intact… but his face looks remarkably different. The general vibe is that of The Joker, minus the clown face paint. The Weeknd, dressed in sparkling red, performs in an elegant room filled with bored, masked onlookers. Though he dances around, sprays alcohol on them, throws things at them, and wields a gun, none of them so much as flinch. The only person affected seems to be the woman he leads up onto the stage with him, but her screams are ignored. Other than her, it seems that all are immune to the chaos.

In addition to the singles “Heartless,” “Blinding Lights,” and “In Your Eyes,” The Weeknd also shared the title track as a promo single, performed the ballad “Scared To Live” on SNL, and shared music videos for “Until I Bleed Out,” “Snowchild,” and “Too Late.”

We also got two remixes of “In Your Eyes”: one featuring Doja Cat and, more recently, one with Kenny G. Last month, The Weeknd and Spanish singer Rosalía teamed up for a remix of “Blinding Lights.”

The Weeknd’s Recent Collaborations

The Weeknd has been busy with collaborations in the past year, and not just on remixes of his own songs. Over the summer, The Weeknd’s single with the late Juice WRLD, “Smile,” came out. We also got “Over Now,” a song he did with Calvin Harris.

At the end of October, Ariana Grande released her latest album, Positions. The Weeknd joined her on the song “Off The Table.” In early November, The Weeknd teamed up with Maluma for a remix of “Hawái.”

The Weeknd had a huge After Hours tour planned for last summer, but alas, COVID-19 struck and ruined the year for us all. The tour has been tentatively rescheduled for later this year.
