Avril Lavigne’s long-awaited sixth studio album has been a long labor of love. Though she officially began recording it last spring, Avril began writing and demoing three years ago. And despite multiple predictions of finishing – first last November, then this February – it looks like Avril is finally wrapping the recording process. As she promised two weeks ago, this is her final week of recording. With just a few days left, fans will be hearing Avril’s new album within a matter of months!
Today, Avril shared the studio update her fans have been waiting for:
Final week of recording. Wrapping this album is bittersweet. It kind of freaks me out to be this close to the end… So I’m going to continue with writing because I have been loving it so so so much. I have been able to lose myself in the music and pour my all into it.
Although album #6 is coming to a close, it’s incredible to know how inspired Avril has been lately. With her plans to continue writing, even after the last song is mastered, fans can only hope that next time the wait between albums won’t stretch quite so long. Indeed, Avril’s last album came out five years ago. After releasing Avril Lavigne in November 2013, she battled Lyme disease and divorced second husband Chad Kroeger of Nickleback. There have been plenty of hardships in her personal life, but she’s channeled those into powerful songs and an album of strength.
Avril has described her upcoming album as being more rock this time around. She’s also returning to her roots in some ways. As proof, she co-wrote two songs with Lauren Christy, the songwriter behind “I’m With You” and “Complicated.” Avril has also worked with producer J.R. Rotem. Some songs fans may hear on album #6 include “Lucky Ones,” “It Was In Me,” “Warrior,” and “Crush.”
In non-album news, Avril has kept busy in the last couple of years. She recorded a few new songs with other artists, including tracks with Japanese band ONE OK ROCK and new production duo Grey. In time for the winter holidays, she released a cover of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with Jonny Blu last November. Avril also returned to her acting ambitions, voicing Snow White in the upcoming animated film, Charming. For the movie, Avril also joined Ashley Tisdale and G.E.M. to sing “Trophy Boy,” written by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.
Avril’s “next level” album will come later out this year via BMG Records. Catch up on all we know about the new record so far, and keep checking back here for more on Avril’s new music. With the new album officially wrapping this week, we should be hearing new music by summertime!
