Green Day Celebrate Album Release With “Meet Me On The Roof” Video

Today Green Day released their new album, Father Of All… Following the singles “Father Of All…,” “Fire, Ready, Aim,” and “Oh Yeah!,” today the band is celebrating the album release with one more. The celebratory song “Meet Me On The Roof” comes with a new music video.

“Meet Me On The Roof” kicks off with handclaps and jangling piano, making a lighthearted atmosphere. The verses are straightforward, though Billie Joe’s new penchant for falsetto appears as echoes punctuating some lines. It’s a fun, old-school song that actually would have fit well with Billie Joe’s side band, The Longshot.

The song’s music video stars Gaten Matarazzo from Stranger Things, and it was directed by Brendan Walter and Greg Yagolnitzer. We find ourselves in a high school of decades past, with a young Gaten harboring a crush on a classmate. In an effort to get her attention, he arranges a roof party where he’ll show off his impressive motorcycle stunts. With a little help from Billie Joe (himself sporting some notable sideburns), Gaten ultimately finds his happy ending.

Changing Labels & More Music Possibilities

In a series of interviews last September, Green Day did imply that this will be their last album with Warner Records. They’ve been with the major label since the early 1990s, and all of their albums from Dookie onwards have been released by Warner.

Additionally, the band members also suggested the possibility of them releasing a second album 2020 – possibly on their own label after leaving Warner.

Some speculate that Green Day is trolling fans with Father Of All… and have another (allegedly more serious) album planned. Interestingly, the band’s caption accompanying “Fire, Ready, Aim” in October did seem to feed into that theory. “How many trolls does it take to screw in a lightbulb?” Trolling, indeed.
