Kelly Clarkson’s Next Album Will Mix ‘Breakaway,’ ‘Stronger,’ & ‘Meaning Of Life’

One week ago, Kelly Clarkson spent Easter in the studio working on her next album. She’s been “doing some recording on the side” for at least a few months already, though fans don’t yet know when we’ll get to hear the new music. Luckily, Kelly did give us something for our imaginations! She recently told E! News that her upcoming 8th album will sound like a mixture of her biggest records: Breakaway, Stronger, and Meaning Of Life.

As she explained,

It always is ever-changing, so I hate to be so final about the sound and everything. But it is a little bit more as if Meaning Of Life and Breakaway and Stronger had a baby. Like all three of those albums had a baby. It’s a little bit more pop, but it’s still got the soulful stuff in there. I just was kind of in a different mood… It’s really good! I’m excited about it!

Way back in 2004, Kelly released her sophomore album, Breakaway. With monstrously successful singles including the Avril Lavigne written title track, “Since U Been Gone,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Because Of You,” and “Walk Away,” it went on to be Kelly’s best-selling album and biggest album era to date. Her 2011 album Stronger was another big hit, winning a Grammy and launching hits like “What Doesn’t Kill You (Stronger)” and “Mr. Know It All.”

And of course, Meaning Of Life is Kelly’s most recent studio album, and her first with Atlantic Records. It showcases her soulful sensibilities and presents a more old-school R&B-infused pop sound. While “Love So Soft,” “I Don’t Think About You,” and “Heat” weren’t as big as they deserved to be, Meaning Of Life did launch Kelly’s biggest tour.

Mixing these three albums shows that Kelly is going to bring her A-game on her next album! It may mark a return to her pop rock success, but will also surely keep that soulful realness. This is exciting news for Kelly fans!

Check out the full interview below. Kelly begins talking about her upcoming 8th album at the 1:53 mark:

If you want to hear some new Kelly Clarkson music right now, you’re in luck. Kelly Clarkson sang on six tracks in the new soundtrack album for the animated film, UglyDolls. Her single “Broken & Beautiful” – written by P!nk – served as the lead. Kelly also sings with Janelle Monáe on two tracks.

In addition to singing on the soundtrack album, Kelly also voiced the film’s lead character, Moxy. Watch UglyDolls once it hits theaters this Friday.

Besides recording music, the ever-busy Kelly is also coaching for the third season in a row on The Voice. She won the first two rounds, so we’ll see if she can continue her winning streak. Combining her music and television sensibilities, Kelly will serve as host for the Billboard Music Awards for the second year today. Her opening medley last year was epic, so we have high hopes for what Kelly will pull off tonight! This fall, she’ll also launch her own TV talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Now that Kelly is back in the studio, we’ll likely get more tidbits of information about her upcoming music. Beyond her new comparisons to Breakaway, Stronger, and Meaning Of Life, the only uncovered song titles we have are “Step Up” and “Something New”. However, it’s unclear if those will appear on her next record.

Stay tuned for more news about Kelly’s upcoming 8th studio album – there will surely be more news in the coming months! At this point, we expect to hear the album sometime in 2020. For now, keep checking back here for all the latest Kelly Clarkson music news.
