Editors Have 3 New Songs & “Some Surprises” Coming Soon

Last Friday, Editors shared their addictive new song, “Frankenstein.” Following an interview a few weeks earlier, it had seemed that “Frankenstein” may be the lead single for their upcoming greatest hits album. However, in a new interview today, Editors were a bit more coy about what their actual plans are, saying only that they have “some surprises” in store.

In describing how they made “Frankenstein,” frontman Tom Smith said:

We had some time earlier on in the year. We went to LA and we recorded three songs with Jacknife Lee, who we made our second album with. This is the first one that people get to hear, and it’s exciting. It’s a pop song.

The interviewer then asked if there’s a new record coming out soon, to which Tom responded, “Maybe, we’ll see. There’ll be some surprises, we’ll see.” Bassist Russell Leetch jumped in, adding, “We just wanted to do a few songs with Jacknife and see how they go, and what they go on, we don’t know yet.”

Does this mean there might not be a greatest hits album? Or perhaps the three songs won’t necessarily appear on the compilation? At this point, it’s still unclear. It may be too soon to say, but we do know Editors have at least two more songs ready for fans to hear. One of them might be called “Black Gold,” though that’s also unclear.

Just one year ago, Editors released their 6th album, Violence. (It was one of our favorites of 2018.) After extensive touring and four singles – “Magazine,” “Hallelujah (So Low),” “Darkness At The Door,” and “Cold” – the band members worked on separate projects for a couple months. Frontman Tom Smith rejoined his other group, Smith & Burrows, to perform a brand new song. “All The Best Moves” is set to appear on their long-awaited second album together. Tom also appeared on a song with UNKLE called “The Other Side” last December, and then on “Crucifixion / A Prophet” earlier in March.
