Hayley Williams Puts Out “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris” Lyric Video

Last Thursday, Hayley Williams shared her latest single, “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris,” featuring featuring Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus – of the indie group boygenius – on backing vocals. Paramore member Taylor York produced. It will appear on Hayley’s upcoming solo album, Petals For Armor, out on May 8th, and on her Petals For Armor II EP. Today, the song gets a new lyric video featuring footage from the recording studio.

Like Hayley’s previously released solo songs, “Roses/Lotus/Violet/Iris” continues in the same subdued, almost calming soundscape. But while her first EP featured underlying currents of rage and suspense, this new song is more serene and atmospheric. It feels very 1970s, and its floral imagery only solidifies that impression. It’s earthy and offers a message of empowerment for women, though the song doesn’t hit as hard as the Petals For Armor I songs.

The lyric video features footage of Hayley, Julien, Phoebe, Lucy, Taylor, and the rest of the talented team in the studio last August. We get a glimpse into the recording of their vocals, plus plenty of colorful blossoms to drive home the song’s theme.

Touring & Paramore’s Future

Hayley previously announced an intimate solo tour across North America and Europe, set to begin in May. However, in all likelihood, the tour will be postponed due to coronavirus. You can still check out current date and locations – and purchase concert tickets – here, but realize these are very much subject to change.

Hayley has also confirmed that Paramore is not over. They will make music together again, though it probably won’t sound like her forthcoming solo material. In any case, Hayley indicated that this solo album is an important step that will only help the band grow.
