Lana Del Rey Joins Matt Maeson for “Hallucinogenics”

Last year, singer-songwriter Matt Maeson put out his debut album, Bank On The Funeral, featuring his 2018 single, “Hallucinogenics.” During Lana Del Rey’s Norman Fucking Rockwell tour last November, she invited Matt to sing the single onstage with her in Oklahoma City. Now, nearly a full year later, fans can enjoy an official duet recording of “Hallucinogenics.”

As with the original solo version of the song, the duet version of “Hallucinogenics” opens with gentle strummed acoustic guitar. This time, Lana chimes in on the first line, singing in a breathy, angelic voice. From there, Matt sings lead, Lana drifting in and out with harmonies. They trade lines on the pre-chorus before it explodes into something altogether poppier and more joyous. Singing together, “Hallucinogenics” transforms into a catchy, addictive song. This isn’t a simple folk song; rather, it’s dynamic, shifting between styles.

In a new Instagram post, Matt Maeson shared the story of how he and Lana connected to turn his single into a duet:

Lana sent me a message on Instagram at random asking if I’d like to come play Hallucinogenics at one of her shows last year. I very eagerly agreed even tho I’m a super busy guy who does super busy things and it was a surreal experience to say the least. I was nervous af and the crowd started singing along and it was just an insane moment for me. I remember listening to Born To Die on repeat when it came out and her songwriting heavily influenced the writing I do today. When we asked her to hop on Hallucinogenics with me she was into it and bang bang we got a duet! An absolute dream come true. Thank you so much Lana ????????????????????????
