Avril Lavigne Hypes Uptempo Rock Album & Possible Spring Single

Just a week ago, Avril Lavigne revealed that her forthcoming seventh studio album is already done and slated for a summer release. Now, Avril has been telling fans about its rock sound, the unusual lack of ballads, and when we can expect to hear the first single. With our first taste due in spring and the full album due not long after, we have a lot to look forward to! And fans aren’t the only ones who are excited: Avril has been enthusiastically responding to comments on her Instagram posts, sharing thrilling tidbits of information.

In a new Instagram post yesterday, Avril replied to several fan comments. This is what we learned.

First things first: Is the lead single already chosen? According to Avril, it is!

Okay, so when can we hear it then? Avril anticipates a spring single! She told a fan, “my guess approx 2-3 months. It’s done. Team working on set up. Wahoo. We r putting final finishing touches on album. Can’t wait!” By that estimate, we could have the lead single in April or May!

Another fan asked about “any really cool info” Avril could share about the upcoming album. Avril divulged, “the production is rock and roll baby with tons of electric guitars and live drums. Feldmann is an insane producer. I wish I met him a long time ago.” We don’t know about you, but we are so ready to hear a rock album from Avril!

Finally, an important question that nearly every Avril Lavigne fan would ask: Will there by any ballads on the new album? In a word: no. Although Avril is known for her heart-wrenching ballads, this new album is all about rock ‘n’ roll and uptempo bangers.

We are feeling more and more excited for Avril’s new album! What do you think of the new details Avril shared? Let us know in the comments!

Recent Studio Time & “Flames”

It was only in December that we learned Avril Lavigne was recording music with MOD SUN and producer John Feldmann. At the end of December, Machine Gun Kelly joined the “jam fam” in the studio. Travis Barker has also been involved. The trio continued recording music for Avril’s own upcoming album at least through January.

Our first taste of the new music came early last month when MOD SUN shared “Flames,” featuring Avril. The music video came a few weeks ago, and his full album, Internet Killed The Rockstar, came out last Friday. It’s a great song, and we can’t wait to hear more where that came from.

Late in January, we learned about 17 new song titles Avril has been working on in the studio. Will these all make it onto her new album? Which ones will be released as singles? Check out the list below and guess away:

  1. Joker
  2. Deja Vu
  3. Love Sux
  4. Avalanche
  5. Me, Myself, & I
  6. Hellelujah
  7. Californyeah! (ft. MOD SUN)
  8. Burn Out
  9. Kiss Me Just Like The World Is Ending
  10. Pity Party
  11. Eternally [note: in Christmas Eve photo, this track shows the word “Happy,” though it’s unclear if that was the full title then]
  12. Dancing With A Hurricane
  13. Bite Me (ft. Marshmello)
  14. Too Free To Live [?]
  15. Boys Lie (ft. Machine Gun Kelly)
  16. Take My Breath
  17. Dare To…. [final words unintelligible]

Finally, just over a week ago, Avril confirmed that her new album is already done! She suggested that the album will come out this summer. Following our anticipated spring single, that would be the perfect timeline.

More From Avril

Avril’s last album, Head Above Water, came out in February 2019. It launched the singles “Head Above Water,” “Tell Me It’s Over,” “Dumb Blonde,” and “I Fell In Love With The Devil.” Last spring, she reworked its closing song, “Warrior,” to fit the COVID-19 pandemic. Renamed “We Are Warriors,” its proceeds have gone to help those in need during this pandemic.

In October, Avril appeared on Tommee Profitt’s new Christmas album, The Birth Of A King, singing an epic cover of “What Child Is This?”

More Avril Lavigne News

In the last several months, Avril revealed that she’s been writing a lot of new songs during self-isolation. We’re pleasantly surprised that this musical inspiration has turned into a full, completed album so quickly. We’re loving “Flames,” and are excited to hear how Avril’s own new songs will sound, too!

Beyond music, Avril has also stated that she plans to write a cookbook. Avril has talked about her love of cooking for years — at least as far back as Under My Skin in 2004 — and has been sharing Instagram stories from her kitchen lately. We’d be happy to get a new kind of creative project from Avril, and a cookbook sounds great!

These next few months should be exciting, and with any luck, more news about Avril’s new summer album and forthcoming spring single should be imminent. Keep up on all we know about Avril’s seventh album here, and keep checking back here for all the latest Avril Lavigne music news.

  • Nice. I’m so excited for Avril Lavigne’s first 2020s album and her first rock album. Rock music and Avril Lavigne blend together very nicely and rock music works very well as Avril’s modern music. No more bratty pop and I bet the first single will be a rock single for rock radio. Pop music have moved from from Avril. So I’m really happy with the change. Hey Hidden Jams, I would like to see Vevo merging with YouTube Music to make YouTube Vevo. Why? With YouTube Vevo, all official music videos will have a YouTube Vevo thumbnail. Even Warner Music Group music videos. I would also like to see Avril performing this year’s single at the 2021 MTV VMAs. Good luck.
